Three Teams Compete in Battle of the Butter at Iowa State Fair
August 18, 2011
Three teams competed in the Battle of the Butter on Wednesday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
First place went to teammates Laura Schieber, Ian Coffelt and Jeff Siebrecht. Together they created the sculpture Butter Cow 100th Birthday Cake.
The second place team, Heather Nelson and Julie Chamberlain, both of Des Moines, created The Butterfly. Third place went to a team from Prairie Meadows Racetrack with the sculpture Winning By a Nose created by Ashley Hansen and Polly Loneman, both of Des Moines, and Michelle Weigel of Altoona.
The Battle of the Butter is part of the festivities celebrating 100 years of the Butter Cow. Teams of two to four sculptors compete daily for a chance to have their sculpture on display in the John Deere Agriculture Building alongside the 2011 Butter Cow. A $100 prize is awarded to the winning team each day. Judging is based on originality, creativity and use of butter.
