Tasty Tomatoes Take Home Ribbons at State Fair

The top tomato growers brought their best produce for judging Saturday, August 13, at the 2011 Iowa State Fair to see whose garden produced the best tasting fruit.
Robert Morris of Des Moines won first place with her entry in the Best Tasting Tomato competition. Dave Treft of Sioux City won second place.
Don Francois of Des Moines won first place in the Salsa Basket competition. Mary Davis of Hazleton took second place. Gary Fattig and Kathryn Fattig, both of Chelsea earned third and fourth, respectively.
Winning entries from are on display throughout the Fair from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the John Deere Agriculture Building sponsored by Alliant Energy.
“Nothing Compares” to the 2011 Iowa State Fair, celebrating 100 years of the Butter Cow August 11-21. The Fairgrounds are located at East 30th and East University Avenue, just 10 minutes east of downtown Des Moines, and are open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. each day of the Fair. Exhibit hours may vary.
