Tasty Spam Dishes Impress Judges at 2011 Iowa State Fair

Two Iowans collected top honors with their breakfast dishes in The Great American Spam Championship and Kid Chef contest judged Saturday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
First place in the adult category went to Cheryl Rogers of Ames. Second place was awarded to Deanna Smith of Des Moines, while Krista Kulas of Johnston placed third. Julie Petersen of Knoxville earned an honorable mention.
In the Kid Chef competition, Hannah Toresdahl of West Des Moines placed first. Second place went to Kyle McGuire of Johnston. Eden Cross of Des Moines took third place.
Each first place winner was awarded $150.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
“Nothing Compares” to the 2011 Iowa State Fair, celebrating 100 years of the Butter Cow August 11-21.
