Six Performances Secure Spots in Semi-Finals for State Fair Talent Search

Six talented Senior division acts (ages 13-21) have advanced to the semi-final rounds in Bill Riley’s 52nd annual Iowa State Fair Talent Search. Each act will perform again on Thursday, August 18.
The names, ages, hometowns and routines are:
Benjamin Ahlers, 14, Ft. Dodge, Vocal
Isaac Smith, 13, Cedar Falls, Piano
Holly Buck, 21, Denison, Flute
Emily Sailer, 20, Sioux City, Vocal
Karen Whitman, 20, Grand Mound, Baton
Laura Jean Perry, 16, Shenandoah, Tap Dance
Acts competed across the state to qualify for competition in this year’s Talent Search. The championship round will take place on Sunday, August 21 at 1:30 p.m. on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage sponsored by Pepsi. Bill Riley, Jr. is once again hosting the show.
Casey’s General Stores will present the first place winner with a prize of $7500. The second and third place winners will be awarded $3500 and $1500, respectively. Casey’s General Stores will award more than $15,000 combined to the Senior and Sprout divisions.
“Nothing Compares” to the 2011 Iowa State Fair, celebrating 100 years of the Butter Cow August 11-21. The Fairgrounds are located at East 30th and East University Avenue, just 10 minutes east of downtown Des Moines, and are open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. each day of the Fair. Exhibit hours may vary.
