Sioux Center 4-H Youth Wins Grand Champion Market Pig Banner at State Fair

John Rietema of Sioux Center exhibited the Grand Champion Market Pig in the 4-H Market Swine Show judged Thursday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair. The barrow had previously been named Champion Medium Weight Barrow and Champion Market Barrow.
Madison Harken of Pleasantville exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Market Pig, which had earlier been named Champion Heavy Weight Barrow and Reserve Champion Market Barrow.

The Grand and Reserve Champion Market Swine, as well as 12 other livestock champions, will be auctioned in the prestigious Sale of Champions on Saturday, August 20, at 2 p.m. in the Penningroth Media Center of the Cattle Barn. The event is sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement, a non-profit organization established to encourage the pursuit of agriculture-related careers by Iowa’s youth.
“Nothing Compares” to the 2011 Iowa State Fair, celebrating 100 years of the Butter Cow August 11-21. The Fairgrounds are located at East 30th and East University Avenue, just 10 minutes east of downtown Des Moines, and are open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. each day of the Fair. Exhibit hours may vary.
