Seniors Showdown in Spelldown at the Iowa State Fair

Jane Carlstrom, 65, of West Des Moines took first place in the Senior Spelldown contest held Wednesday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair. Carlstrom competed against nineteen other senior spellers in multiple rounds to come out victorious and spelling-error free in the competition.
Second place went to Dyanne Schulze, 63, of West Des Moines, and third place honors were awarded to Donna Amfahr, 76, of Jesup.
“Nothing Compares” to the 2011 Iowa State Fair, celebrating 100 years of the Butter Cow August 11-21. The Fairgrounds are located at East 30th and East University Avenue, just 10 minutes east of downtown Des Moines, and are open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. each day of the Fair. Exhibit hours may vary.
