Saucy Dish Earn Honors in State Fair Food Department Contest

Des Moines resident Rita Johannsen took top honors in the Cooking with Cookies’ Sweet Hickory BBQ Sauce contest judged Sunday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
Debbie Wise of Des Moines took second place, and Angela Lawler of West Des Moines claimed third. An honorable mention was awarded to Matthew Phoenix of Ankeny.
Entries were judged on taste, creativity and appearance.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
