Lana Ross of Indianola took first place honors in Bruce Piper’s Favorite Pie competition judged Sunday at the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
Second place was awarded to Mike Roe of Eddyville, and Marianne Carlson of Jefferson received third place.
Entries had to be two crust strawberry-rhubarb pies with no other fruit or nuts. Entries were judged on flavor, general appearance, consistency of filling, crust and creativity.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
“Nothing Compares” to the 2012 Iowa State Fair, August 9-19.
