Tanya K. Hardy of Osceola bested the competition in 30 different classes to win First Place Overall in the C&H Canned Jams competition judged Wednesday, August 8, prior to the start of the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
Rod Zeitler of Iowa City claimed Second Place Overall. Robert Morris of Des Moines took Third Place Overall. Zeitler captured Sweepstakes honors while Hardy earned the Reserve Sweepstakes title.
A jam is a thick spread made with crushed or chopped fruit cooked with sugar. Jam has the same brilliance in color as jelly, but is softer in texture.
Entries were judged on flavor, consistency, appearance and food safety.
