Norwalk Cook Rolls Over Competition with Overnight Buns in State Fair Contest

Cherokee L. Blakley of Norwalk took First Place Overall in A Favorite Family Recipe contest judged Thursday at the Iowa State Fair. Blakley’s recipe, Overnight Buns, topped the Breads division en route to winning a new Kitchen Aid Mixer.
The contest, one of 46 new foods contests at this year’s Fair, asks “differently-abled” youth ages 6-21 to create a dish independently and then share about family members who like the recipe.
Will Ollendick of Grimes took top honors in the Main Dish division, and Robin Edler of State Center placed first in the Dessert division.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the recently-renovated Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
