Newton Man is Rose Royalty at the Iowa State Fair

Gary L. Osborn of Newton claimed six of the 12 Court of Honor titles in the Rose competition judged Saturday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.

Osborn won honors for Best Floribunda, Best Climbing Rose and Best Shrub in addition to claiming the Queen and King of Show and Princess of Miniatures titles.

Ron Morlok of Carroll claimed three of the remaining Court of Honor titles with his strong display of Hybrid Tea/Grandiflora roses, earning Queen, King and Princess of Show in the category.

Dee and Ed Pagliai of Des Moines earned Best Grandiflora Spray and Best Miniature Spray while Clif and Marge Godfrey of Urbandale took home the Best Old Garden Rose title.

Rose judging is part of the Floriculture exhibit on display in the John Deere Agriculture Building, sponsored by Alliant Energy, open every Fair day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
