Iowa’s top roll baker was crowned in the King Arthur Yeast Rolls competition judged Tuesday, August 7 prior to the start of the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
Joyce Larson of New Market won First Place Overall, topping the competition in 11 individual classes of yeast rolls.
Cristen Clark of Runnells took Second Place Overall, and Cheryl Rogers of Ames claimed Third Place Overall.
Luanne Sutter of Ankeny earned the Sweepstakes award while Lana Ross of Indianola tied with Larson for Reserve Sweepstakes honors.
Entries were judged on flavor, appearance and texture.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Due to the large number of classes, Food Department judging begins prior to the Fair in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
