Kids’ Creative Cakes Honored for Ugliness at Iowa State Fair
August 14, 2011
Beauty may be only skin-deep, but ugliness was frosting-deep in Chuck E. Cheese’s Ugliest Cake contest judged Friday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
Youth ages 7-17 competed to create the ugliest cake using only edible decorations. The results, which included skunk and ashtray cakes, were as ugly as can be.
Taking home blue ribbons in the contest were McKenzie Niemeyer of Zearing, MacKenzie Becker of Pella, Riley Mengel of Des Moines and J.T. Davis of Johnston.
All ribbon winners received game tokens to be used at Chuck E. Cheese’s, while the creators of the first place cakes also received a pizza and soda to enjoy.
