Nick Johnson of West Des Moines won first place and a $50 Dahl’s gift card in the Kids’ Appetizers competition judged Monday at the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
Lauren Gilbert of West Des Moines claimed second place and a $25 gift card for her starter dish.
The Kids’ Appetizers competition was open to youth ages 10 to 12. Judging was based on taste, appearance and ease of preparation for kids.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
“Nothing Compares” to the 2012 Iowa State Fair, August 9-19.
