August 18, 2011
Rosemary Ridgway of Johnston took first place in the Bites for Bette competition judged Friday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
Second place went to Janet Melchers of Fairfield and the third place ribbon was awarded to Reyna Evans of Mitchellville.
Entries consisted of an individual bowl of soup plated with edible garnishes and were judged on eye appeal, taste and availability of the ingredients in the grocery store. The top three finishers took home cash awards and a copy of Bette’s cookbook.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the recently-renovated Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
