Judges Spoon Up Blue Ribbons in Pasta Salad Contest at State Fair

Olivia Caron Smith of Winterset and Sonny Melchers of Fairfield secured top honors in the Create Your Best Cold Pasta Salad contest judged Friday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
Caron Smith took first place in the youth category, and Melchers was honored in the adult category. Both first-place winners were awarded a $100 Visa gift card and an apron.
In the youth category, Emily Durbala of West Des Moines took second place, and Triniti Conlan of Des Moines won third place.
Pleasant Hill resident Pat Felderman secured second place in the adult category, and Ann Carter of Carlisle took third place.
Entries were judged on nutrition and appearance.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
