Judged Devour Dekowski’s Dish in State Fair Competition

Lisa Dekowski of Cedar Rapids earned First Place Overall in the Birth in a Chicken House contest judged Saturday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair. Each ribbon-winning entrant in the contest was awarded a copy of a collection of funny stories about veterinary visits entitled “Birth in a Chicken House,” written by contest sponsor, Dr. Jay Lucas. Dekowski was also awarded a $100 savings bond for her placement.
Dekowski’s dish took first place in the Entrée category, with second place honors going to Kathleen Beebout of Des Moines. Natalie Hess of Cedar Rapids took third place.
In the Salad category, Emma Whitlock of Indianola placed first. Daphane Trevillyan of Urbandale was awarded second place, and third place went to Linda Asbille of Indianola.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
