Rod Zeitler of Iowa City won first place and a $100 grocery gift certificate in the Canning with Mrs. Wages competition judged Thursday, August 9, during the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
Sandra Kinzenbaw of Marengo won second place and a $75 grocery gift certificate, and Susan Schultz of Haverhill earned third place and a $25 grocery gift certificate.
Judges also awarded Erin Kramer of Nevada an Honorable Mention.
Contestants were challenged to can pickles or tomatoes using Mrs. Wage’s seasonings. Entries were judged on taste and appearance.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
