Indianola Woman Sweetens Competition in State Fair Candy Contest

The top homemade candymakers from across the state competed in Piper’s Homemade Candies competition judged Sunday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
Emma Whitlock of Indianola tasted victory twice as sweet, winning First and Third Places Overall for her Irish Crème Pecan Delight Fudge and Milk Chocolate Almond Toffee, respectively.
Lisa Brown of Swisher took Second Place Overall with Swisher’s Best Caramel Apples.
All entries were judged on flavor, texture and appearance.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
