Rebecca Howe of Des Moines took first place in the Healthy and Delicious Recipe Contest judged Tuesday at the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
Second place was awarded to Suellen L. Calhoun of Des Moines, and Carrie Henderson of West Des Moines took third. Deanna Smith of Des Moines received an Honorable Mention.
Entrants were challenged to produce their favorite healthy recipe that had family appeal, was easy enough for weeknight meals, delicious as well as relatively low in calories, fat, sugars and/or a good source of vitamins, antioxidants or fiber. Recipes were to include Tone’s or Spice Islands products.
Entries were judged on flavor and health, creativity, appearance and ease of preparation.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
“Nothing Compares” to the 2012 Iowa State Fair, August 9-19.
