Flowers Contrived, Ribbons Not, in State Fair Contest

An Urbandale couple took home the blue ribbon in the Contrived Flowers contest judged Thursday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
Clif and Marge Godfrey of Urbandale placed first, while Debbie Lemon of Johnston secured second. Third place went to Nathan Gaskill of Johnston.
Entries in the class consisted of three contrived creations which resemble a flower, such as
zinnias, roses, tulips, mums, dahlias and lilies. Exhibitors could use any type of plant material, including material that is fresh, dried, painted or treated.
Floriculture exhibits are on display every day of the Fair from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the John Deere Agriculture Building sponsored by Alliant Energy.
“Nothing Compares” to the 2011 Iowa State Fair, celebrating 100 years of the Butter Cow August 11-21. The Fairgrounds are located at East 30th and East University Avenue, just 10 minutes east of downtown Des Moines, and are open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. each day of the Fair. Exhibit hours may vary.
