First Time Exhibitors Shine in Vegetable Contest at State Fair

New entrants competed in the First Year Exhibitor division of the Vegetable Crops contest judged Tuesday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
First place went to Jacob Van Manen of Kellogg. Lyndall Larson of New Market took second while Marlene Mogle of Des Moines took third. Fourth place was awarded to Dakota Rundlett of Vinton. A. Jay Winter of Dallas Center took fifth, and Rose Shira of Des Moines placed sixth.
The contest was open to all first-year competitors in the Vegetable Crop divisions. Entrants were asked to submit one tomato, one pepper and two additional vegetables. Winning entries from this contest are on display throughout the Fair in the John Deere Agriculture Building sponsored by Alliant Energy.
“Nothing Compares” to the 2011 Iowa State Fair, celebrating 100 years of the Butter Cow August 11-21.
