Participants in the Cockadoodle-Do Casserole competition, judged Friday at the 2012 Iowa State Fair, were challenged to create a dish that would wow a breakfast or brunch crowd.
Rhonda Paul of Des Moines won first place and a $75 dollar cash prize. Emma Whitlock of Indianola won second place and $50. Pat Felderman of Pleasant Hill claimed third place and $25. Judges awarded an Honorable Mention to Lana Ross of Indianola.
Entries were judged on flavor originality, ease of preparation and appearance.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in theElwellFamilyFoodCentersponsored by Blue Bunny.
