Competition is Sweetened in State Fair Foods Contest

Eileen Gannon of Des Moines claimed First Place Overall in the Make It Sweet with C&H Sugar contest judged Thursday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair. Gannon’s C&H Caramelized Sugar Cake took first place in the Dessert class en route to the title.
Lana Ross of Indianola was awarded Second Place Overall for her Very Berry Blueberry Soup, which also claimed the top spot in the Entree class. The Peach Cheesecake dessert entry by Rebecca Howe of Des Moines earned Third Place Overall honors.
In the Entrees class, Shelby McCreedy of Atlantic took second place.
Howe claimed second place in the Desserts category, and Nanette Conger of Fairfield took third.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
