Campers Win Free Camping in Iowa State Fair Lighting Contest

Aaron Knapp and Joane Clark of Polk City were awarded Grand Champion honors in the annual Campground Lighting contest judged Thursday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair. Their display, recognized for Best Use of the State Fair Theme in addition to Grand Champion honors, earned them a plaque and free camping during the 2012 Fair.
Reserve Champion honors went to Richard Mesecher of Pleasantville. Mesecher received a plaque and 11 free admission tickets to the 2012 Fair.
The Showmanship award went to Linda Reese of Cedar Rapids. The display by Heather Mercer of Cantril was named Most Original. Steve Hickman of Des Moines earned top honors for the Most Number of Lights Used.
“Nothing Compares” to the 2011 Iowa State Fair, celebrating 100 years of the Butter Cow August 11-21. The Fairgrounds are located at East 30th and East University Avenue, just 10 minutes east of downtown Des Moines, and are open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. each day of the Fair. Exhibit hours may vary.
