Buelt Wins State Fair Title – That’s No Bologna

Jamie Buelt of Polk City won First and Second Places Overall in the Ulrich’s Recipe contest judged Wednesday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
Buelt’s Split Pea Soup with Ring Bologna took overall top honors and Summer Sausage O’Brien claimed second.
Buelt’s dishes claimed first place in the Main Entrée and Side Dish categories, while Olson’s creation placed second in the Main Entrée class.
Phyllis Olson of Newton earned Third Place Overall with Chicken Casserole.
Entries were judged on taste, appearance and creativity.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.
“Nothing Compares” to the 2011 Iowa State Fair, celebrating 100 years of the Butter Cow August 11-21.
