Elizabeth Starrett of Des Moines wowed the judges in the Homemade Angel Food Cake contest judged Friday at the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
Eileen Gannon of Des Moines took second place, while Penny Murphy of Des Moines captured third place. First place won a $100 cash prize, and second and third places were awarded $75 and $50, respectively cash prizes as well.
Entries were judged on texture, taste, appearance and creativity.
The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in theElwellFamilyFoodCentersponsored by Blue Bunny.
