American Classic Cherry Pie Tops Competition at State Fair
August 21, 2011
Bakers from across the state competed in the Machine Shed Pies contest judged Friday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
Lauren Trujillo of Earlham won First Place Overall with her Cherry Pie. Keri Crowley of Indianola won Second Place Overall with Caramel Cream Pie, and Kathleen Beebout of Des Moines took Third Place Overall with Pear Pie.
Mary Sailer of Manning took the Sweepstakes award. Beebout tied with Lana Ross of Indianola for Reserve Sweepstakes honors.
Entries were judged on quality of crust, filling, appearance and originality.
