Altoona Youth Sings Way to Top in State Fair Competition

Cora Jane Sly, 12, of Altoona won first place in the Children’s Singing competition held Thursday at the 2011 Iowa State Fair.
Anna Brace, 11, of Indianola claimed second place, and Byanca Smith, 10, of Mount Ayr earned third place.
Participants aged 5 to 12 were each allowed to perform two songs or sing for three minutes.

The contest was part of “Rural Americana Olde Tyme Competitions” in Farm Bureau Pioneer Hall. A first prize of $5 and ribbons were awarded to each class.
“Non Stop Fun” at the Iowa State Fair runs through August 22. The Fairgrounds are located at East 30th and East University Avenue, just 10 minutes east of downtown Des Moines, and are open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. each day of the Fair. Exhibit hours may vary.
